The social contract is the foundation of society, so if it's been broken twice, one must still uphold it despite any feelings of betrayal.
It may seem pointless to continue being decent when those around you use and abuse your kindness, but maintaining a sense of decency can bring more peace and understanding into our lives than bitterness and resentment ever could.
We should strive to move past revengeful thoughts and work towards forgiveness instead. In this way, we can create a better world by rebuilding relationships fractured due to breaking the social contract.
Even in times like these, we must stay true to ourselves and stand up for what is right, no matter how hard it might be. After all, upholding our values will always take us further in life than choosing hatred or spite ever will - because at its core lies an act of selflessness that can make a real difference.
